Day care centers are there for one purpose, they are there to ensure that the children are well taken care of. Day care centers offer a helping hand when it comes to parenting especially when parents are unable to watch over the children. Even if this may seem to be the case, it does not mean that parents rely on the day care alone to take care of these things. A parent is still a parent and nothing can change that. Even if at what angle you may look at it, parents should always be active in taking part of the responsibilities when it comes to childcare.
As the day care provider, it is your responsibility to ensure that there is an open communication line between you and the parents. This will make sure that you are giving the most effective and the best care for their children. It is not enough that you have the right procedures and policies about childcare because no matter what you say, children will always have their own way of learning. Who else would know how the children will be taken care of properly, but the parents? This is why you need to make sure that you do communicate with the parents. Not only will this be effective for this purpose, but you will also learn more about the home, culture and the way of living of the children. From here, you will be able to come up with the best day care plan that will work for the children.
When the children performed well or poor for that day, you will be able to relay the news to the children faster. If you are able to communicate with the parents comfortably, you can tell them these faster. The parents will now be able to monitor the progress of their child. You can ask the parents to help you in maintaining a good performance so that the child will continuously improve his performance. On the other hand, if it is for the other case, you can always ask the parents for help to improve the performance of the child. This can really be beneficial for your day care if you open a communication line with the parents.
Besides from a communication line, you should encourage the parents to participate in certain activities involving the care of the children. There are always time for you to set parent-teacher meetings so that you can give the parents evaluation of the children for the past two months or so. You can address to them the goals that you would want to be fulfilled in your day care. Explain the policies that you have set and how it will be beneficial for their children. This will help the parents in understanding the kind of involvement that they have when it comes to taking care of their children. By actively participating in this, the parents will be provided a chance to be updated with the monthly progress of the children. They will have the chance to ask their concerns when it comes to the performance of the children.
On the other hand, you can always plan an open house for the parents. This will give the parents a chance to see how their children are doing in the day care. Parents must at least spend a day in the day care to be able to see what kind of care you are providing for their children. Always set a day for the parents and they will surely appreciate this. Do not just limit the exposure of the parents just to bringing and picking up their children in the day care.
Scheduling an open house is one of the hardest things to do. About a month or so before you planned open house, have a survey ready and ask them parents what are the most probable dates that they are available to go. Since this activity is made for the parents, you should prioritize their availability to attend. If not, you can just set a date and announce it in advanced so that they will be able to prevent scheduling any plans for that day.
While waiting for the said date, prepare your day care. It is always best to start cleaning as early as possible because cramming will do no good. Clear out you storage boxes, rooms and materials that may have need a little dusting. Make sure that books are stacked properly, walls are painted and windows are cleaned. Prepare these before hand because you will really have a lot of preparing to do. It is best that you start early so that if you forget to do something, you can easily do it without load of thing piling up for you.
When you have set a schedule on this day, you need to prepare a program for the parents. Have pamphlets or booklets that parents can bring home for future reference. Prepare parent-child activities such as art activities that can encourage bonding between them. You can even have children make a presentation, sing a song or dance for the parents to enjoy. You need to show that parents that the children are really having fun in your day care. This does not only fun in this sense, they need to know that the children are having fun while they are doing sensible things. These are the things that parents value when they send their child in a day care.
These are some of the ways in which you can encourage interaction with the parents. Always keep in mind that a team formed with the parents is always so effective compared to working alone. There are times when you really need to seek the help if parents so you should do this. Communicate with them in the best way possible. Your business’s success lies in this so do everything that you need to do. As they say, two heads are better than one. This is absolutely true when it comes to day care too.
