They say the best way that children learn is through experience. Outdoor activities are usually what the children look forward to when they are in the day care center. They always love to play in the garden of in the playground. Taking advantage if this, you should remember that you can teach the children how to take care of the environment through planting. If you are already running out of ideas for the children in the day care, this is a fun idea that will make the children learn to be little environmentalists. Through this activity, you will be able to foster in the children a love for the environment which will be beneficial since it will encourage the children to plant more trees in the future.
If you plan to teach children how to plant you need to make sure that you have an introduction for the children before you start. You need to provide them with the information that they need about planting. Make a list of the things that you will need for planting. Explain in the simplest way why is planting beneficial for everyone. This will encourage them to plant on their own.
It will be helpful if you pick a plant which can be planted easily. You need to choose a plant which requires little effort and has a short growing period. There are some plants which grow beautifully which the children will enjoy. Some of these plants that are highly recommended for this activity are Cherry Tomatoes, Sunflower, Pumpkins, Radishes and Nasturtiums. The seed can easily be found in gardening stores.
This will be more effective if you give each child a seed which they can plant. Before you plant,
make sure that you find a spot where there is sunlight. Prepare the soil for planting by digging it will be easier for the children to plant their seeds. Mix some organic potting mix into the soil to allow the seeds to grown easily.
You should set an example on the proper way of planting. Make sure that you show them how to plant slowly. While you are planting, make sure that you are explaining each and everything that you are doing so that they will understand the procedure easily. Allow each student to show how they are going to plant the seeds. This will ensure that their seeds are planted on the proper places. You will also monitor the safety of each child when they are planting.
Check on your seeds from time to time. This will heighten the excitement of the children. Make sure that you water the seeds together and go to the backyard as a whole group. By the time that the first plant grows, the children will get excited for the next plants to follow. This activity is great for instilling the value of the environment on the children. If the children learn how to plant, they will be able to conserve the trees and plants that enable us to survive in this world.
