The Childcare Industry - What Is It About

Studies and investigations conducted toward knowing more of the child care industry reveals that child care providers- including pre school teachers, teacher assistants and child care workers make up about 80% of wage and salary jobs. Most of these workers, with the exception of teachers, do not have college degrees, considering the minimal training necessary for the job. Also, it has been observed that a lot of these child care providers only work part time, while the other percentage works more than 8 hours a day. However, there is a high turn over rate in this industry because of the lack in benefits and meager salaries.

In this day and age when most couples hold two or three jobs, the main concern centers on looking for quality child care for their kids. These parents would normally leave home early in the morning and come home late and making sure that the kids are well taken care of is a valid worry. Most of these parents also do not have the option of leaving the children with their other relatives thus the increase in the need for child care elsewhere.

There are three categories to child care; one is inside a child’s own home, two is in a child care provider’s home, and three is in an organized child care facility. Included in the organized facilities are day care services provided by schools and companies. Schools sometimes offer before-and-after school programs for kids whose parents either go to work really early or come from work really late.

If you are thinking of putting up your own child care service business, you are probably vacillating between an organized day care facility and a home day care facility. The more formal child care facility includes pre schools and day care centers which are located in business buildings or commercial areas. The bigger portion of the industry though are home-based day care providers which are basically home owners that welcome children into their homes for a fee, and take care of them while their parents are still at work.

While the day care service industry is indeed large, the competition is also huge. Aside from paid child care services, there are also non profit organizations that take care of kids for free. The parents can find these in religious organizations, the YMCA, and other social centers, colleges, and sometimes even offices.

In some worksites, employers can provide a subsidized or free child care to ensure that their employees with kids will be able to concentrate on their work without worrying about their kids. In case the office space is not big enough to provide an area for kids, some employers choose to give financial assistance for parents to afford day care, and this would be good for day care center business owners that are near offices and commercial areas.

There are various advantages and disadvantages to formal and home based day care centers. It is up to you to choose between the two areas.
