Establishing a day care center seems like an easy way to make money. After all, who would not be able to stand up to children not even as tall as your knee? However, the irony in that is the fact that children could be the most trouble you can get yourself into. A couple of children running around the house could be a bit of fun for around five minutes, but a dozen children running around for two hours is a little less than enjoyable.
You might think that children can do so many things all at once, but ultimately, the two things you need to be concerned about are the child’s safety, and happiness.
To make sure that they are content all throughout the time they are in your daycare facility, you need:
1. Toys. Have you seen the area in supermarkets and superstores designated to the littlest consumer? That section is huge, and for good reason. Children get bored with toys very easily, so you will need to stock up on a wide variety of these entertainment and learning tools. The bad thing about this though, and it is something that’s inevitable, the kids will want what the other child is playing with. Grass always greener on the other side?
2. Books. Children are easily coaxed into the habit of reading. They are naturally curious creatures that would easily be transfixed by things they can have access to. Kids love touching books and discovering different textures so make sure that you have a wide variety. There are books that have music, pop-ups and interesting illustrations. Books are also a good way to send them off to sleep.
3. Musical instruments and a radio. Children love hearing music and making noise, and dancing to it, so be ready for it. Have small drum sets, pianos, and tambourines around. It is a fun group activity that can lead to better social skills as well as developing motor skills.
For safety, the two essentials are:
1. A medicine cabinet and first aid kit. Children have the propensity to crawl into the tightest spots and scrape any skin that is exposed. They also find it amusing to bump into things, especially each other. By the end of the day, it is inevitable that you will find your kids in band aids and bandages. Have antiseptic and antibiotic creams ready. There are also band aids that have fun figures and colors that the kids will find fascinating. Make sure that you are well aware of any allergies and have phone numbers of pediatricians and nurses displayed in a prominent spot.
2. An official list of names with photos of the people who are allowed to pick up the children. You will have to be very vigilant about this. You would not want a case of kidnapping on your hands. Even if the child says he knows a person, call the parent, and make sure that everything is in order before you let the child go.
