Set a nap time in your daycare everyday and it could be starting 12 noon. Napping for children is very important and it works well when they are already used to it. They are usually exhausted after active play in the morning so they need to rest for them to have enough energy until dinner.
During nap time, the babies will sleep in cots while older kids on their sleeping mat. Some kids can just rest quietly while reading a book if they do not like to sleep so that they will not disturb those who are sleeping. This is also the best time for the providers to take their rest (while still looking after the kids).
It takes time for a child, especially the younger ones, to follow the routine so you have to consistently assist or supervise him. You can use his blanket or a cuddly toy to put him on a nap. Speak softly while rubbing the baby’s back then leave for about five minutes and return back to rub again. Later, leave him for longer a time until he settles. It might take two weeks for a child to be used to this routine.
Have movable dividers where each child can be put in between. Every now and then check their faces to see if everything is well.
This is a quiet time for the provider and it is also a great opportunity to have lunch peacefully. They could also do some work which they cannot do if the children are around.
